Great Witchingham Play Park 🌿

This is a very special park to a lovely family and community in Great Witchingham. A little baby from the village, Hector, got sick when he was just 10 months old and the family found out at 11 months that it was terminal. A really rare condition called Alpers syndrome. The family were (& still are) devastated and wanted to create a legacy for Hector and also something his big brother, Arthur, that could be proud of. The family set up a fundraiser to raise the remaining £8k needed to build the rest of the park and hit the target within 24 hours. It meant that Hector got to go on the park just before he died. They dedicated the little train to him 🤍 Hector and Arthur now have a little sister, Margot, who also visits the park too and will grow up to know that this is a very special place.

Thank you Tara, Hectors mum, for inviting us to visit the park and for sharing your story with us.

Tara and her husband continue to fundraise in memory of their son. They’ve raised over £40k now split between the park, lily foundation, EACH, Norfolk and Norwich and GOSH. The Lily Foundation is a small charity that help families with children who have mitochondrial disease, please find the link here to donate 💚
